         Do you ever feel like you never have enough time for anything? Working takes up a big portion of our life and other tasks such as chores and sleep that it leaves little time for us to relax or pursue hobbies. With several countries testing out the 4-day work week, it leaves the question whether America should make the transition too. We tend to be a bit behind in implementing ideas such as this early on and I do not see this happening any time soon across America due to our little friend capitalism. However, the pandemic completely changed the world overnight and many jobs went remote. Before the work culture was not as open to people working completely remote but the pandemic allowed it to be normalized with zoom meetings and such. Iceland is one of the first countries to try and implement the 32-hour work week with about 85% of workers transitioning from 5 to 4 days. I promise I will make this history lesson short, however, it is very important background information. The industrial revolution resulted in a rapid change from rural farm life to factory-line work. The rapid innovation of machinery, it allowed people to mass produce products like never before which resulted in capitalism that we know today. People used to work about 12 hours a day, 6 days a week leaving almost no time for anything else.  Hello everyone!       I would like for you all to think back to when you were in kindergarten and your parents and teachers asked you what you wanted to do when you grow up. Many of us may have said careers such as being a nurse or firefighter. But don't you think it is odd that from the age of 5, we are taught that our entire identity is the career we choose? The reason I bring this up is that American culture has indoctrinated us from a young age to take pride and be passionate in our careers. Though that is not necessarily a bad thing, the purpose of life is to not work your life away either and there is much more to who a person is than what they do for a living. I am choosing to write about this topic because fighting for working fewer hours and more rights for workers in the United States is something I am passionate about.
